Kim Ui-Gyeom is a hardworking student who recently transferred to a new school. He was raised by a wealthy father who psychologically abuses him under the misguided belief that constant belittlement will somehow enhance his academic performance.
Due to past trauma, Ui-Gyeom sometimes strangles himself when he's alone in bed.
One day at school, he hears a bully named Hong-Il beating someone in the classroom and instinctively shouts at him. He immediately apologizes, but despite his apology, Hong-Il beats him up.
Later, after school, Hong-Il drags Ui-Gyeom to meet his leader, Seung-Joon, and takes Ui-Gyeom’s phone number, telling him he should always answer when they call.
Ui-Gyeom’s father grows increasingly worried about his falling grades. One evening, Ui-Gyeom receives a message from Hong-Il, but he ignores it because he’s on his way to the academy.
The next day, Hong-Il confronts him for not responding and orders him to bring bread. As punishment, Hong-Il takes Ui-Gyeom’s headphones, an important gift from his older brother. When Ui-Gyeom asks for them back, Hong-Il drops them on the floor.
A fight breaks out, and Hong-Il ends up getting badly beaten. Kang Yoon-Ki watches like a referee, making sure it stays a one-on-one fight and stopping another bully from interfering.
After that, Yoon-Ki begins to follow Ui-Gyeom, clearly intrigued by him. Ui-Gyeom, surprisingly, seems to enjoy fighting.
When he returns home, his father scolds him for his failing grades. That night, Ui-Gyeom begins to hallucinate about his older brother - the only person in that big, cold house he ever felt truly comfortable with.
Despite the beating he received, Hong-Il continues acting like a jerk. He slaps Ui-Gyeom in passing, who tries to de-escalate the situation. Later, they corner him in the bathroom along with their leader, Seung-Joon. Though Ui-Gyeom has no desire to fight, Seung-Joon attacks him. Before the situation escalates further, a teacher arrives and stops the fight. He berates Seung-Joon and pointedly asks him about his mother, leaving the group humiliated.
Later, the bullies steal Ui-Gyeom’s music player. Meanwhile, Da-Bin, Ui-Gyeom’s mother, attempts to enter a room in their house - one that clearly reminds her of a painful past.
Kang Yoon-Ki eventually returns the music player to Ui-Gyeom. Soon after, Ui-Gyeom and Seung-Joon end up fighting. Ui-Gyeom is on the verge of losing, but he uses his quick thinking to read his opponent’s movements and turn the tide.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Ui-Gyeom lands a powerful punch.
